Trump on Fox Business

  • Says both 'very talented'
  • Says he likes Yellen 'a lot'
  • Taylor and Powell together 'in my thinking' but adds 'I have a couple of other things in my thinking'

Forgotten in the talk about the race for the Fed chair is that there is also a race for the Vice-Chair and someone in the top-5 will likely be offered the role.

My guess is that would put Taylor in charge and Powell as vice-chair. There is also an opening for Fed Governor but I doubt any of the remaining candidates would be interested.

Separately, Bloomberg reporter Kevin Cirilli reports that Pence "really likes" Taylor and that Powell causes some political problems because some Republicans voted against him when he was nominated by Obama, including Senate banking chair Mike Crapo. McConnell, Toomey, Scott and Heller also voted against him.

Yellen's White House meeting today was said to be a routine meeting with Gary Cohn, part of a recurring lunch.

Update:

Trump "most people" say it's down to Powell or Taylor but he says he likes Yellen a lot, says he's looking at all three.
