US housing starts for August 1180K vs 1174K estimate

The US housing starts came in a little better than expected at 1180K vs 1174K estimate.

• The housing starts prior month was revised higher to 1190K vs 1155K previously reported
• The housing starts fell -0.8% vs 1.7% estimate. the prior months revised rise can be blamed for the discrepancy
• The Building permits - a look at future starts - came in at 1300K. That was higher than the estimate of 1220K
• The prior month building permits remained unchanged at 1230K. That was previously revised a bit higher from the 1223K initially reported
• Total building permits are up 5.7% vs -0.8% decline expected.
